Non-Profit Controller, Colorado Springs, CO (Hybrid)
Financial Talent Group has partnered with an elite non-profit organization supporting the Arts in Colorado Springs to hire a dynamic Controller to ensure financial stability and success of the organization. The Controller is responsible for overseeing financial statements, including balance sheets. This involves ensuring accuracy, compliance with accounting standards, and providing a clear picture of the organization's financial health. Identifying and implementing efficient processes is essential for effective financial management. The ideal Controller will have a bachelor's degree in accounting, five or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience, financial experience within the non-profit industry and have a strategic and tactical approach in this hands-on role.

Why consider the Controller role:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing financial statements, including balance sheets. This involves ensuring accuracy, compliance with accounting standards, and providing a clear picture of the organization's financial health. Identifying and implementing efficient processes is essential for effective financial management.
What you will be doing as the Controller:
Cash management – bank reconciliations, cash reporting
Monthly journal entry preparation and GL account reconciliation
Monthly financial statement reporting – budget to actual (monthly and YTD)
Assist in top-of-the-house reporting (e.g. consolidated management report, cash, etc.).
Ensures financial transactions and reporting are complete and accurate.
Streamline operations and accounting tasks.
Manage standard accounting, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and revenue recognition.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure systems or functions operate according to organizational and industry procedures and guidelines.
Conduct responsibilities, including general accounting functions as well as general administrative duties.
Ensure completion of all daily, weekly, and monthly general accounting functions.
Support accounts payable, donor accounts receivable, and payroll processing as needed.
Supervise Staff Accountant
Assists with special projects as required.
Prepare financial packages for board meetings
Assist CEO with Union negotiations
Assist CEO with special projects and reporting
What will make you successful as the Controller:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
A foundation in public accounting and CPA preferred, but not required.
Non-profit sector experience
QuickBooks Enterprise Experience highly preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office suite
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Ability to work with all levels of management.
Must be eager, proactive, detailed, and accurate; have great communication skills; and ability to handle tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including knowledge of GAAP and accrual-basis accounting.
Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal day-to-day supervision in a fast-paced environment. Requiring a balance of assertiveness, time flexibility, and teamwork, with a commitment to excellence.
